Hirro became a police dog for Lancashire Constabulary in 2008 at the age of 14 months old. He was put with his handler PC Katie Jones who he served his whole career with. He completed his course in winter 2008 and deployed onto the streets. Because of his temperament he was also specially trained in the role of Tactical Firearms support and was deployed to several firearms incidents where he worked alongside Firearms officers. Hirro retired in winter 2013 due to Ill Health and went to enjoy retirement with Jim and Doreen at their home where he is truly loved and spoilt. He was a very loyal, trustworthy Police Dog who carried out his job with determination and commitment every day. He once broke into his handler’s lunch box and ate the contents leaving the wrapper and the lunch box completely intact! His commitment and loyalty and his funny moments are truly missed by his old handler.
